New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, Mike Ocquaye Jnr, has firmly denied reports suggesting he conceded defeat to his opponent, Elikplim Akurugu, following the recent elections.
The rumors surfaced as the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Jean Mensah, suspended declarations for the Dome-Kwabenya and Ablekuma North constituencies in the Greater Accra Region. Out of nine constituencies in the region, seven were declared for the NPP, while the remaining two were sent to the EC’s management for further review.
Delays in the re-collation process stemmed from the absence of key documents, including pink sheets—officially known as Summary of Results Sheets—at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional office.
In response to the speculations, Mike Ocquaye Jnr clarified that the circulating video used as “evidence” of his concession was from 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and had no relevance to the current elections.
“People circulated a video of me in a nose mask—clearly from 2020, during the COVID-19 season. That wasn’t me conceding this year,” he explained.
He further called for fairness and adherence to the rules, citing CI 127, Regulation 43, which mandates the involvement of party representatives in the collation process.
“Can’t we, the NDC, NPP, and EC, meet to collate and clarify this? We hope the EC engages all parties to resolve the matter,” he added.
The Dome-Kwabenya electoral outcome remains unresolved, with tensions mounting as stakeholders await the EC’s final decision.
