-Wife of popular radio morning show host at Nkawkaw Kwahu prays IGP after narrowly escaping assassination attempt
Detective Corporal Gifty Asare Brenya, wife of Nana Darkwah, also known as ‘The Soldier’ – morning show host of Nkawkaw based Obouba FM, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh and the police hierarchy, as well as the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour and the MCE for Nkawkaw Lawyer Yaw Owusu Addo, to urgently intervene to ensure that there is due diligence in investigations and prosecution in the case of an assassination attempt on her family.
According to Mrs Gifty Asare Brenya, who is a Detective Corporal at the Domestic Violence Division at the Nkawkaw Police Divisional Headquarters, on Friday 17th January, 2020, she left six of her children at home so they could prepare for their school exams while she went for duty.
While going, she spotted a 13 year girl who gave her name as Akosua Fosua Elizatheth. After engaging her she was convinced that the girl could be “a bad girl”, a suspicion which was later confirmed by her driver.
At around 5:01pm, whiles she was still at the office, she received a phone call from a resident of the area called Antwi, who informed her that, one of her children came to his drug store with speed and panting that some masked armed men and a small girl have forcibly entered their room and demanded that the children reveal where their parents were or they will kill them.
Amidst threats and harassment on the children, her six year old daughter hit the gun which was pointed at her by one of the masked person. She told him not to attempt shooting because they have already called the police. She even asked him whether he did not know that their mother was a police officer?
It was confirmed that 13 years old Elizabeth was the one who led the gun men into the premises of the incident after alerting them of the Woman’s departure for work.
The officer said she later apprehended Akosua Fosuah Elizabeth who confirmed to the police that the masked armed men gave her an amount to show them her residence which she did.
Meanwhile, she has so far assisted in the arrest of two other suspects who have been identified by her children.
The matter has so far been processed for court. On the first day of proceedings at the Abetifi District Court on 21st January, 2020, they were charged with abertment of crime, unlawful entry and house detention.
“I highly disagree to this because the actions of the gun men in mask who broke into my home, threatening to kill my children if they do not show my whereabouts and have also been identified by my children should rather have been charged with first and second degree felony cases and not what was read,” she told journalists in an interview.
“I am by this pleading with the IGP to step into this matter and ensure proper justice is done for the safety of my family.
Information available to me from the town suggests that the role my husband, Nana Darkwah ‘The Soldier’ played on air about some illegal galamsey operations that resulted in an emergency community tour on the state of galamsey impact within the Kwahu Ridge by the Eastern Regional Minister and MP for Nkawkaw, Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour and the Regional Security council could be part of the reasons for the assassination,” she further alleged.
“We also know that, should they have succeeded in this attempt, my mortal remains would have been promoted for haven served the state well, but I am saying to the IGP and Attorney General to take immediate interest in this matter and not wait to promote me after i am gone with my family,” she lamented.
