The National Treasurer for New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Charles Dwamena has castigated regional chairmen of the elephant party who are forcefully compelling constituency executives to join them pay a consolation visit to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia following his defeat in the just ended elections.
Few days after the gargantuan and unprecedented defeat of the party, some NPP faithfuls have been visiting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, their presidential candidate for the just ended 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections at his official residence to pledge their support and encourage him after his unsuccessful presidential bid.
According to Dr. Dwamena a.k.a “Dr. China”, visitation of their flagbearer by party executives and followers should not be by compulsion, explaining that it should be done at the will of an individual “not by force”.
The National Treasurer has asserted that the party NEC has not given any directive that executives or a member of the party must pay a consolation visit to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Forcing people to pay a courtesy call on Dr. Bawumia is wrong and I will condemn it.”
He indicated that, such inactions is what got many peeved in the party and has landed the party where it is now today.
There is nothing wrong visiting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia but it is wrong to use party structures to whip people in line to visit him. This is what provoked many people and led to the defeat of NPP.”
“It is not compulsory. An individual can do so if he wishes”, he reiterated.
Dr. Dwamena therefore called on Regional Chairmen of the party who have taken up that habit to stop.
