Ghana’s Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Justice Ofori, has been conferred the Honorary Professor title by the Oxford Academic Union of the United Kingdom (UK).
This follows his induction into the Union in August this year.
Prof. Dr Justice Ofori being among the few accomplished and high-profile individuals globally, was inducted into the Oxford Academic Union for his stellar performance as the leader of Ghana’s insurance industry.
The Honorary Professor title conferred on the Commissioner of Insurance, comes closely on the heels of Ghana’s National Insurance Commission (NIC) being adjudged the best insurance regulatory entity on the African Continent by the Business Executive.
“I express my appreciation for the recognition and dedicate this honour done me to the entire insurance industry in Ghana for the enormous support showed in undertaking several major reforms in the industry (sic),” stated Prof. Dr Justice Ofori in his acceptance speech.
Since assuming office in 2017, Prof. Dr. Justice Ofori has led numerous reforms aimed at strengthening Ghana’s insurance industry.
Key among those reforms is the recapitalisation of the minimum capital requirement of insurance companies to ensure insurance firms have enough liquidity to meet claims obligations to policyholders.
Another, is the introduction of the celebrated Motor Insurance Database (MID) which provides a centralised system from which security agencies and the general public including passengers of vehicles can check the validity of vehicle insurance of vehicles plying the country’s roads.
Prof. Dr. Justice Ofori has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana and a diploma with honours in Banking and Finance from the Toronto School of Business, Canada.
He possesses degrees from York University and the University of Toronto, both in Canada.
He is Certified in Management (CIM) by the Canadian Institute of Management and is a licensed Independent Adjuster.
Dr Ofori has an International Executive MBA degree from the Paris Graduate School of Management and is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada (IIC) and a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP).
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG).
Additionally, he possesses a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree from the Swiss Business School (SBS).
