Dumsor: ACEP exposes the lies of ECG

“It is pure generational problem. Everybody knows we don’t have gas so they should be candid with us,”

Executive Director of Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Benjamin Boakye, has exposed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the government on the recent power outages in the country, insisting that dumsor is back.

He said the frequent power outages Ghanaians are experiencing now is purely a generational issue and not a transformer challenge as the ECG is claiming.

He argued that the Public Utilities Regulatory commission (PURC) and the Ghana Grid Company (GridCo) have confirmed that there is deficit in power generation in the country.

“Once you have [generational] deficit you shed loads and that is what is happening,” the ACEP boss emphasized.

Boakye who disclosed this in an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight show on Monday night, advised the ECG to be transparent with Ghanaians as the company can not continue to play politics with power.

“It is pure generational problem. Everybody knows we don’t have gas so they should be candid with us,” he stated.

According to him, the replacement of 600 transformers and fuses that the ECG claims are the cause of the outages is mere hoax.

“What we are doing to this economy by not telling the truth is that people can not plan their lives, businesses can not plan,” Boakye added.
