Students, teachers, and parents of Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School in the Ketu-North Municipality of the Volta Region concluded their SRC-Week celebration with a grand durbar at the school premises on Saturday, June 29th. The colorful event, themed “Developing DZOSEC is a Shared Responsibility,” saw dignitaries from the Ketu-North Municipality and the Volta Regional Education Directorate in attendance.
The school Headmaster, Torgbui Xedihor Hlitaboh IV, also the Paramount Chief of the Agave Traditional Area, expressed his excitement over the students’ youthful exuberance, vitality, and creativity demonstrated throughout the week’s celebration. He advised them to maintain good behavior and strive to improve the previous year’s WASSCE results of 83.2%.
He appealed to the government through the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service, to support the school with infrastructure and furniture. “The current infrastructure cannot contain the students. We have a student population of three thousand eight hundred and thirteen (3,813) therefore, we need an 18-unit classroom block with furniture,” he said.
The SRC donated a 3-D signpost and a public address system to assist with the school’s mock and final exams, especially when students write Oral English exams. Derrick Gogah, the SRC President, told News Ghana, that they spent about thirty thousand Ghana cedis (GHS 30,000) on these items, funded by SRC dues and with the support of school management.
The Parliamentary Candidates of the two main political parties, NDC and NPP, in the Ketu-North Constituency, as well as groups like the school staff and the Old Students Association.
The Volta Regional Director of Education, Mr. Agbemadi Yao Francis, who was the Guest of Honour and the Chairman for the occasion, also commended the SRC for their crucial role in facilitating communication between students and administration, fostering inclusiveness, and supporting extracurricular activities that enhance learning.
The Education Director, the Headmaster, and the SRC led other dignitaries and students in unveiling the new 3-D signpost for the school. The school culture group, the brass band, and the choir graced the occasion.
