Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Mr James Kluste Avedzi asked the government to explain how banks will conduct internal audit after the E levy has began operation.
In his view, the e-levy will stifle businesses since the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has failed to amend its laws that will allow auditing through the e-levy transaction.
He revealed that the PAC has started referring procurement breaches and misappropriation to the attorney general for prosecution.
Mr Avedzi was speaking at the 2022 annual national internal audit and governance conference in Accra on Thursday May 5.
He said “now, the economy is going digital we need to identify the reflags. Internal Audit competence is more important to me. Internal audit competence is for enhancing organizational values.
“If the internal audit unit is competent, it increases and enhances the value of the organization because you are going to achieve the goal and objectives of that organization,” he said.
The controversial levy started on Sunday May 1 amidst public outcry.
