In a heart-wrenching incident, Mr. Kwame Isaac, a twenty-seven-year-old farmer, met his untimely death in Kwahu Kyirifufuo, near Mframa, located in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Reports indicate that on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, Mr. Isaac tragically slipped and fell into an abandoned galamsey pit in the area.
A collaborative effort involving firefighters, police personnel, and local residents successfully retrieved Mr. Isaac’s lifeless body from the pit.
Eyewitness Mr. Alex Owusu, also known as Opinto, recounted the challenges faced during the rescue operation.
Despite the efforts of the firefighters, their single water pumping machine proved insufficient to drain the pit.
Consequently, assistance was sought from residents to augment the operation.
While investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Isaac’s death, Mr. Owusu emphasized the need for better support and resources for the Ghana Fire Service and the Police.
He highlighted the crucial role played by local farmers who generously provided their pumping machines to aid in the rescue efforts.
The deceased’s body has been transported to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw, pending further police investigation.
