The decision comes in preparation for the retirement of the current Clerk, Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 60 on February 2, 2025.

Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror has been appointed as the new Clerk to Parliament effective January 1, 2025, following an extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Service Board held in November 2024.

The decision comes in preparation for the retirement of the current Clerk, Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 60 on February 2, 2025.

Mr Djietror, an experienced lawyer and one of the longest-serving procedural clerks in Parliament, emerged as the successful candidate after interviews with three deputy clerks.

He is well-known for his extensive service in Parliament, having served as Clerk at the Table and as Clerk to several key committees, including the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, the Business Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Service Board, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has already issued Mr Djietror’s appointment letter.

In a related development, Mr Oteng Nsiah has been directed to proceed on annual leave from December 31, 2024.

One of Mr Djietror’s first key responsibilities will be overseeing the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament and the Speaker on January 7, 2025.

Touted as the most experienced procedural clerk and the longest-serving Clerk at the Table, he is expected to handle the proceedings seamlessly.

Before Parliament adjourns sine die for the Christmas holidays, the Speaker is expected to formally announce the appointment of Mr Djietror to Members of Parliament.
