Private legal practitioner Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has won the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary in Manhyia South held on Sunday (14 July).
Baffour Awuah polled 376 votes to beat Nana Owusu Prempeh, a brother to the outgoing MP with 141 votes. Also, James Owusu had seven votes and Akwasi Coker Gyambibi polled two votes.
The election was held on Sunday (14 July) and supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC) amid tight security.
The four were part of six aspirants who initially picked forms when nominations opened on Monday (8 July). Two others – Kwadwo Amankwaah Antwi, and Abdul Rahman Diallo – could not submit their documents at the close of nomination on Tuesday (9 July).
The election of a parliamentary candidate for the NPP Manhyia South seat was scheduled for Sunday (14 July) following the unanimous endorsement of sitting MP Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running mate to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is hitting the ground running as he faces Madam Amonu Gyamfua, of the NDC who was also elected to represent the party nearly two weeks ago.
