EC to begin accepting presidential election nominations on September 9

In a statement shared with selected media outlets, the EC said, “Ahead of the 2024 general elections, the EC will receive nominations of candidates for the presidential elections from 9th September to 13th.”

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will begin accepting nominations for the 2024 presidential elections from September 9th to 13th. These forms will be collected at the Commission’s head office located in Accra.

In a statement shared with selected media outlets, the EC said, “Ahead of the 2024 general elections, the EC will receive nominations of candidates for the presidential elections from 9th September to 13th.”

Earlier, the EC had informed potential candidates that the Nomination Forms would be available for download from its website (https://ec.gov.gh/forms/) starting Friday, August 2, 2024.

“A candidate for election as President shall be nominated on the official Nomination Forms of the Commission,” the EC emphasized in a statement issued on August 1. The statement further explained, “Completed Presidential Nomination Forms for each candidate shall be signed by the candidate and by not less than two registered voters from each District Assembly.” It added that the forms must also include the name of the designated Vice President candidate.

The EC also highlighted that the forms must be submitted in four copies and must be delivered in person by the Presidential Candidate or two of the registered voters who signed the forms.

Additionally, each candidate is required to submit four recent post-card sized photographs against a red background, clearly showing their full face and ears. According to the EC, the completed forms are to be submitted to the head office between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day. A filing fee of GH¢100,000 must be paid via banker’s draft, addressed to the EC Chairperson. Female candidates and persons with disabilities will be required to pay a reduced fee of GH¢75,000.
