The Kwesimintsim District Police Command in the Western Region on Friday, September 2 arrested one John Quarshie, a 35-year old resident of Takoradi, for stealing and selling ECG meters to unsuspected persons within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis and beyond.
John Cudjoe and other suspecting persons have been on the radar of ECG for a couple of months after a market survey by the company pointed to a worrying number of unsanctioned meters in the hands of many unsuspecting customers.
His came to an end after some affected customers reported to officials of the ECG that meters installed on their properties had been uninstalled and taken away by unidentified persons.
Frantic investigations led to the arrest of John Quarshie.
Further investigations carried out by the ECG and the police revealed that the suspect after stealing the meters sold and installed them to unsuspecting members at a fee equivalent to the ECG’s approved charges for new service connection.
Western Region General Manager of ECG Ing. Emmanuel Justice Ofori confirmed the arrest to Connect FM and said the suspect will be processed by the Police and arraigned before court.
“We will pray that the court to give him a heavy sentence to deter others. Our monitoring team is also still on the lookout to arrest the network of unscrupulous citizens engaged in the crime.”
