The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Training Centre has announced the commencement of its first ever innovative Youth Apprenticeship Programme aimed at empowering young Ghanaians with skills in electrical engineering and energy management.

In a statement dated May 2, 2024, the power supply company stated that the program will start in June 2024 and will be held at the ECG Training Centre in Tema – Community 10 Junction only on Weekends for 12 weeks, however, eligible individuals must fall within age 16 to 25.

“This program is designed to equip young Ghanaians aged 16 to 25 with essential skills in electrical engineering and energy management, fostering self-employment and supporting the state’s mission to reduce youth unemployment”, the statement read.

Director of the ECG Training Centre, Ing. Godfred Mensah in an excerpt of the statement reiterated that the apprenticeship program is to build the youth for the energy sector in some years to come.

“Our Youth Apprenticeship Programme is not just about teaching young people to be electricians; it’s about empowering them to be pioneers of their future and of the energy sector. We are committed to providing a platform for creativity, entrepreneurship, and growth”, Mr Mensah explained.

The initiative serves as an opportunity for youths to acquire essential skills that will not only enhance their employability within the sector but also support them in starting their entrepreneurial ventures.
