The Director of Elections and IT of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah has postulated that the country’s voters’ register is subpar.
He posits that the electoral roll is “sick” and therefore not fit for purpose.
This comes as the Electoral Commission (EC) buckles its boots to undertake mop-up registration from Thursday, August 1, 2024.
In a write-up, the politician urged the agents of his party to be vigilant in that regard as he advocated for an independent audit of the register.
“This call for heightened vigilance from the high echelons of our great party is necessary because the current voters register, which the EC states has 18,681,366 voters, is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE! The voters register is sick!”
The concerns arise from some erroneous figures put out by the Commission as well as some Biometric Voter Registration laptops of the EC that have gone missing.
“Moreover, the Electoral Commission must accept the need to transparently audit the voters’ register,” he demanded.
