Editorial: These Military Brutalities and the Responsibilities of the Police

MILITARY patrols in communities and bullion escort must be stopped, the brash behaviour of the Military is normalised by such operations...

This phenomenon is fuelled by allowing the Army to perform Police duties…

The Police must be better equipped, trained and more personnel recruited and trained to perform these civil duties in conformity with Article 200 of the Ghana Constitution.

MILITARY patrols in communities and bullion escort must be stopped, the brash behaviour of the Military is normalised by such operations…

MILITARY involvement in LANDGUARDS duties must be immediately stopped with all involved punished to serve as deterrent to others.

MILITARY involvement in Galamsey Operations must be restricted and those involved in protecting Galamseyers punished together with those who ordered their deployment.

The Military is trained to Kill.

So if you deploy the Military among civilians in communities instead of the Police and the military KILL the civilians; the policy makers cannot also escape blame.

When Military criminals are not apprehended and punished publicly; the impunity grows…

When mutineering soldiers beat up Citizens of Wa and the President goes with Ministers and the Military High Command to beg for their Forgiveness rather than ensure public punishment; the impunity grows…

When soldiers are deployed to undertake Landguard duties in Accra, and they go shooting and assaulting unarmed citizens as occurred in La-Kpletso Dome Faase among others; the impunity grows..

Allowing the Military to be above the law, ignoring Military personnel driving recklessly in town without regard for the law; are key to why the impunity grows…

The Military impunity can and must be stopped…

THE MILITARY MUST BE RESTRICTED TO BARRACKS AND THEIR CORE DUTY OF DEFENDING THE TERRITORY OF GHANA.
