Ejisu By-Election: Kwesi Nyantakyi, Abronye’s wife, others pick up nomination forms

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) opened its doors for individuals interested in contesting the Ejisu parliamentary candidate elections slated for Saturday, April 13, 2024, to file their nominations.

In the wake of the unfortunate passing of former Ejisu Member of Parliament John Kumah, the Electoral Commission is mandated by the 1992 constitution to conduct a by-election to fill the vacant seat in the constituency.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) opened its doors for individuals interested in contesting the Ejisu parliamentary candidate elections slated for Saturday, April 13, 2024, to file their nominations.

Some notable personalities have declared their intentions to contest in the Ejisu by-election. Among them include notable figures such as the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, Lawyer Mrs. Portia Acheampong Abronye, and others.

However, to foster unity within the party, the NPP’s election committee has urged certain candidates to consider withdrawing from the race.

In a statement released by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, a three-day window has been set from April 2 to April 4, 2024, for aspirants to purchase and submit their nominations at the constituency party office.

The statement outlines the necessary procedures, including the procurement of Nomination Forms and the payment of fees, with aspiring candidates required to pay a non-refundable application fee of GHȼ3,000 and a filing fee of GHȼ35,000.

Additionally, special provisions have been made to support women, youth, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), who will benefit from a 50% rebate on the filing fees, reducing their financial obligation to GHȼ17,500.
