Election 2024: Don’t certify registration of PNP – PNC urges EC

A statement issued by lawyers of the PNC Tuesday, July 16, 2024 says the name PNP, being the predecessor party that gave rise to the PNC, is very similar to the PNC.

The People’s National Convention (PNC) wants the Electoral Commission (EC) to withhold the final certificate for the registration of the People’s National Party (PNP).

A statement issued by lawyers of the PNC Tuesday, July 16, 2024 says the name PNP, being the predecessor party that gave rise to the PNC, is very similar to the PNC.

This similarity, the lawyers argue, could lead to confusion among voters considering the usage of the same emblem as that of the PNC.

“The use of the palm nut tree as an emblem for the newly formed party PNP will further confuse the electorates leaving them to believe that the PNC and PNP are one and the same.

“Since the executives of the PNP are former executives of the PNC, together with the history between the erstwhile PNP and PNC earlier canvassed, it will leave no doubt in the minds of electorates that the new PNP and PNC are one and the same,” portions of the statement read.
