The National Democratic Congress (NDC) achieved a complete victory in the parliamentary elections in the Volta Region, which is its stronghold.
The opposition party secured all 18 seats in the region, demonstrating the electorate’s resounding trust in the parliamentary candidates presented and the party.
New Entrants
Strengthening campaign efforts in the Hohoe constituency allowed the NDC to reclaim the parliamentary seat from John Peter Amewu, who had won it in 2020 for the first time for the governing New Patriotic Party.
The campaign machinery helped the Parliamentary Candidate-elect, Worlanyo Tsekpo, close a gap of a little over five thousand votes in 2020, as he secured 31,163 votes. In Saturday’s election, Mr Amewu lost by a margin of 16,000 votes, garnering 14,971 votes.
Edem Kofi Kpotosu made an entry to parliament on the ticket of the NDC when constituents of Ho Central picked him over the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Divine Bosson, who represented the NPP.
He received 62,522 votes against Mr Bosson’s 5,709 votes.
Edem Agbana defeated Enoch Amegbletor of the NPP in a landslide victory polling 41,002 votes to begin a new chapter of his life as a representative in the legislature.
Sebastian Deh recorded an emphatic victory with 18,326 votes to fulfil his dream of representing the Kpando Constituency in parliament.
The Afadzato South constituency parliamentary seat remained a property of the NDC when Frank Afriyie clinched victory in the elections with 20,618 votes.
Constituents of South Tongu authenticated the bid of Maxwell Lukutor to be their representative in parliament with 42,881 votes. He replaces Wisdom Kobina Woyome.
Incumbents
Dzifa Gomashie commanded 79,902 votes in the Ketu South Constituency to retain the seat for the NDC. She achieved the highest number of votes for the opposition party in the Volta Region due to her constituency’s population density.
Okudzeto Ablakwa polled 41,073 votes representing about 93% of the total valid votes in the North Tongu Constituency to maintain his parliamentary seat.
Kwame Agbodza, the Minority Chief Whip of the 8th parliament in the Fourth Republic, won the Adaklu seat for the NDC by a margin of approximately 12,000 votes.
The NDC retained the Anlo constituency seat through the instrumentality of Richard Kwame Sefe with 36, 419 votes. Similarly, Bernard Ahiafor also secured his fourth term in parliament, polling 30,268 votes.
The people of Keta expressed satisfaction with Kwame Dzidzorli Gakpe’s work, as 29,471 electorates voted in his favour during the recent polls.
Emmanuel Bedzra received 28,110 votes to continue serving the people of the Ho West Constituency in Parliament.
Alexander Hotordze, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, Charles Agbeve, and Rockson Defeamekpor won the seats for the Central Tongu, Akatsi North, Agotime Ziope, and North and South Dayi Constituencies, respectively.
