Ahead of the upcoming presidential election in December, the Private School Owners Association in Greater Accra has officially declared its support for the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama (JDM). They cited his commitment to addressing challenges facing private education in Ghana as their key reason.
The Association expressed frustration with the current government’s exclusion of private schools from critical policies like the Free Senior High School (FSHS) initiative, which they say has left many institutions financially vulnerable and forced some to shut down.
Mahama, in recent engagements with the Association, pledged to integrate private schools into the FSHS program if elected, promising to ease financial pressures and foster equitable competition across the sector.
“Private schools have been sidelined for too long,” the Association stated.
“Mahama’s commitment to inclusivity offers hope for a stronger, more sustainable future for private education,” they added.
The group urged parents, students, and stakeholders in education across the country to rally behind Mahama’s vision and vote for him, emphasizing the need for a leader who values all aspects of Ghana’s education system.
“Together, we can restore the dignity of private schools and ensure no student is left behind,” the statement concluded.
