Divine Otoo Agorhom, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has highlighted Ghana’s steady economic progress under the current administration despite recent challenges.

Acknowledging the economic difficulties of the past few years, Agorhom stated that the economy has now stabilized and is on a recovery path, citing available data to support his claim.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle, he noted that Greater Accra’s high population density has amplified the impact of the economic crisis in the region compared to others.

Agorhom also attributed the party’s reduced performance in the 2020 elections in Greater Accra to heightened anti-government sentiments among residents.

He questioned whether the region’s parliamentary dynamics would significantly influence the outcome of the upcoming presidential elections.

“Considering the challenges that we have been through for the past one year economically. The bite of the economic situation is more here [Greater Accra region] than any other place. And so you expect voters here to be ordinarily angry with the system.

“But just as H.E the president [Akufo-Addo] said earlier, he told us clearly that we were then confronted with a situation where we had to choose between working to save the economy or working to save the citizenry.

“He took a decision to go for the latter, he warned us that the decision he was taking at the time could have such consequences that would affect the economy…And so we got into that difficulty as he rightly predicted. But by the grace of God, as we speak now, you agree with me that he has been able to steer the economy to stability.
