Election Watch Ghana chases Electoral Commission over BVR for Political parties

“This request is necessitated by our commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s electoral processes conform to best and widely accepted practices,”

Conveners of Election Watch Ghana supported by the Youth Organizers of the People’s National Convention (PNC), and the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) are demanding that the Electoral Commission provide political parties with the Serial numbers of all Biometric Verification Registration Kits (BVRs) that would be used for the upcoming limited voter registration exercise.

This follows recent news reports that some BVRs Kits have gone missing from the Commission’s headquarters.

In a joint statement by Election Watch Ghana signed by the two youth organizers – Mark Ewusi Arkoh and Jude Balma who are also the Conveners, they made the demand that the number of the corresponding registration centres and all Registration printouts during the limited voter registration should have the serial numbers of the BVR kits for the purposes of authentication.

“Following credible media reports regarding the theft or disappearance of Biometric Verification registration kit (BVRs) at the Headquarters of the Commission and the destruction of BVD’s during the just ended District and Municipal Assembly election, 2023, we write to request your office to furnish all political parties with the following.

“This request is necessitated by our commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s electoral processes conform to best and widely accepted practices,” they stated.
