Empowering Farmers: Asante Akim Central Municipal launches PFJ 2 initiative

The Asante Akim Central Municipal took a significant step forward in agricultural development with the launch of the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs project, spearheaded by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa.

The launch, held at the Municipal Assembly hall and presided over by Madam Martha Shamiama, the Municipal Agric Director, brought together a host of dignitaries including Hon. Robert Yaw Kwarkye, Municipal Chief Executive, Municipal Director Kwame Asokwa Sarpong, Municipal Agric Convenor, Hon. Samuel Baiden, Municipal Chief Farmer, Mr. Joshua Alele, Agriculture Officers, and Farmers.

Addressing the assembled farmers, Madam Martha Shamiama elucidated the objectives of the second phase, emphasizing its role in providing crucial support to farmers. Under this phase, farmers will have access to essential products on credit, enabling them to acquire necessary materials for their agricultural activities, with payment to be made using raw materials.

Following the program, agricultural officials highlighted the positive reception of the project among farmers, underscoring the importance of farmer participation. All farmers were encouraged to register and actively engage in the initiative.

The Municipal Agriculture Director provided insights into the types of crops suitable for cultivation under the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase Two, offering guidance to farmers for optimal productivity.

Hon. Robert Yaw Kwarkye, the Municipal Chief Executive, articulated the government’s vision for the agricultural sector, noting the increasing involvement of youths in farming activities due to effective management practices. He urged all farmers to seize the opportunity presented by the project.

In a heartfelt appeal, Mr. Joshua Alele, recognized as the Municipal’s best farmer, called upon his fellow farmers to disseminate information about the initiative to neighbouring farmers, fostering community engagement and collaboration.

In closing, farmers expressed their confidence in the project’s success and called for continued support and guidance from agricultural officers to enhance their knowledge and skills.

The launch marks a pivotal moment in the journey towards agricultural sustainability and prosperity in the Asante Akim Central Municipal.
