The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology, has launched the 2024 edition of its annual sensitization program aimed at educating Ghanaians on the importance of protecting the environment and natural resources.
The week-long event, themed “Greening Education, Changing Our Mindset, Changing Our Lifestyle,” is scheduled to run from Monday, October 14, to Friday, October 18.
Dr. Emmanuel Tachie Obeng, Acting Director of the Climate Change Unit at the EPA, engaged the media ahead of the event, emphasizing that this year’s program seeks to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on the economy. He highlighted the importance of educating Ghanaians on the need to protect natural resources for future generations.
Mr. Tachie Obeng appealed to the media to actively participate in educating the public on environmental protection. He urged Ghanaians to refrain from activities that harm water bodies and degrade soil, particularly unsustainable farming practices. He also advised that methods used in extracting natural resources should be environmentally friendly to ensure long-term sustainability.
He reiterated that natural resources are vital to human survival, stressing that it is the collective responsibility of all Ghanaians to safeguard the environment.
