FacebookLive: Here are the Issues Mahama discussed

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has been criticising the government and position the NDC as a better alternative ahead of the 2020 general elections in November.

President Akufo-Addo on several occasions, in three years in his reign, has boasted of a number of achievements from agriculture, health, education, banking among others.

But the NDC Flagbearer appears to be unimpressed about all the said achievements.

In a Facebook live series on Thursday, the Flagbearer seized the opportunity to interact with over 1million followers, answer questions from journalists and what his administration will do differently if voted into power come 2020.

Read below 10 things he talked about

  1. Gov’t doesn’t have plans to pay depositors their locked-up funds in 2020.

  1. Gov’t has increased public debt from 120million to GH218bn in 3years and borrows mainly to consume and not invest. Government has borrowed some monies without parliamentary approval.
  1. The government didn’t inherit a bad economy as painted by the Akufo-Addo government which he accused of cooking figures to make the economy look good. He pointed to discrepancies between IMF and gov’t figures on Ghana’s reserves. He said cooked figures can kill investor confidence.

  1. Cocoa farmers to have free inputs under the NDC government

  1. The 40-member Forex Development committee to tackle cedi depreciation is needless because even a first-year University student can tell why the cedi is falling. He chided Vice-President Dr. Bawumia pointing out that ‘you cannot run an economy using textbooks’

  1. NDC Presidential candidate John Mahama has indicated government procurement of more than 300 ambulances amounts to putting the cart before the horse. He accused the Akufo-Addo government of abandoning hospitals started under the NDC government.

  1. The Mahama government gave the police service over 1000 vehicles, the highest any government has given to the service. It also distributed ambulances and fire engines without making noise.

  1. 2019 Christmas was the worst Christmas for contractors who are neck-deep in debt. NPP has failed contractors some of whom have died due to unpaid debts. NPP is spending more money to rebuild abandoned NDC roads

  1. He challenged the government to show its infrastructure record.

  1. Why the need to rush and introduce higher denomination notes (GH100 and GH200 cedi notes) when big transaction should be cashless.
