National Democratic Congress (NDC), leader and flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, has asserted that Ghanaians’ faith in the country’s democracy is at its lowest point under the current government.
According to him, the actions of the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government have eroded the faith many Ghanaians once had in democratic governance and values, which the country has enjoyed for over three decades.
The former president cited the numerous corruption scandals that have emerged in and engulfed the current government as a key factor contributing to the lack of public trust in state institutions.
“The majority of our citizens are convinced our country Ghana is going in the wrong direction. Faith in our democracy is at its lowest, and many of our youth do not believe that constitutional governance is working for them.
“Faith in our democratic institution and the political leadership is at the lowest ebb. Corruption is at its highest and Ghanaians are numb to the scandals that are exposed almost every week,” Mahama said, while addressing a crowd of party faithful at the NDC’s 2024 manifesto launch event in Winneba, on Saturday.
