The Minister of Finance, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam Anta, has noted that the government has made significant progress in the area of sports infrastructure development in the past few months.

Dr Amin Adam made this known on Tuesday, July 23 in his mid-year budget presentation to Parliament.

Stressing that there will be no supplementary budget requests, the Finance Minister touched on the various sectors of the economy, including sports.

He touted the effort made in the hosting of the 13th African Games in March and the triumph of the national amputee soccer team, the Black Challenge, in the 2024 African Amputee Cup of Nations in May.

“Mr. Speaker, we have made significant progress in enhancing sports infrastructure, talent development, and ensuring that our athletes have the resources they need to excel,” the Karaga Member of Parliament (MP) noted, in the area of sports.

“Ghana successfully hosted the 13th African Games from 4th to 23rd March 2024 in Accra at the new international standard multi-complex sports facility at Borteyman, and the newly commissioned University of Ghana Sports Stadium.”

He added that the sixth-place finish by Ghana on the medals table is the country’s “best performance at an international multi-sport event, so far”.

“Mr. Speaker, the Black Challenge of Ghana also participated and won the trophy in the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations tournament hosted and organised in Egypt. This win secured the team a spot at the 2026 Amputee World Cup Tournament.”
