In a significant step towards enhancing worship facilities and living conditions for pastors in rural Ghana, First Sky Group, in partnership with the Assemblies of God Church Ghana (AG), has commenced the construction of 50 churches and 50 two-bedroom mission houses. The sod-cutting ceremony took place at New Ningo in the Ningo Prampram District in the Greater Accra Region, marking the beginning of the ambitious project set to be completed within five months.
The initiative, named the Legacy Temple Project, targets rural communities in Accra East and Accra West, ensuring that both worshippers and pastors have decent places for worship and residence. This project reflects the vision of Deacon Emeritus Eric Seddy Kutortse, Chairman of First Sky Group, who committed to dedicating 30% of the company’s yearly profits to kingdom work eight years ago.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rev. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church Ghana, likened Deacon Emeritus Kutortse to a modern-day David, emphasizing his dedication to advancing God’s kingdom. Rev. Wengam highlighted that about 60% of Assemblies of God congregations are in rural areas, where constructing adequate worship facilities is challenging. He also introduced the “Reach Agenda” and “Rebuild Agenda,” initiatives by the Church Planting Commission to build temples under the Legacy Project.
Rev. Wengam urged corporate Ghana and individuals to support the Legacy Project, noting that it facilitates the construction and completion of temples nationwide. He expressed gratitude to First Sky Group for their continued support, which has already resulted in the construction of 72 temples for the church.
Deacon Emeritus Kutortse explained that the project was conceived by First Sky Group’s management board eight years ago, with a decision to allocate 30% of profits from all subsidiaries to support kingdom advancement projects and humanitarian efforts. He emphasized that the addition of two-bedroom houses to the church buildings aims to dignify priesthood by providing decent accommodation for pastors in these communities. The extensive project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Mr. John Awate, a member of the Project Committee, revealed that a four-member committee has been established to oversee the construction. Each church building will have a capacity of 200 to 450 congregants and include facilities such as a children’s worship center, general office, pastor’s office, and other essential amenities.
Rev. Andrews N. Awintia, Regional Superintendent for Accra East of the Assemblies of God Church, also expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of First Sky Group for this generous gesture.
The Legacy Project stands as a testament to First Sky Group’s dedication to community development and support for religious institutions, paving the way for improved worship spaces and better living conditions for pastors in rural Ghana.
