Food for All Africa in partnership with Ghana Food Movement and Chef Elijah Addo invites individuals and corporate bodies across the country to join and support their fundraising campaign to distribute 1,000 free lunch box and meals on the 8th International School Meals Day to school children within Akuapem-Mampong in the Eastern region of Ghana
The International School Meals Day encourages children and young people around the world to connect and talk to each other about the food they eat and the role that it plays in their lives. The 2020 edition is on 12th March, 2020 and the theme is ‘Sharing our Successes’. Thinking about favorite foods, developing nutritional projects and discussing where food comes from and who provides it all offer opportunities to share time with family, friends and our community.
This year’s theme allows pupils to share stories and undertake learning about what works well in relation to their meals — whether that’s how the food is grown or cooked, the recipes used, how it’s served or who it’s served by. We want to know! Maybe it’s a favorite family recipe, or food provided at school and served by a favorite member of the school feeding catering team!
Chef Elijah Addo, founder of Food for All Africa said “Every day, millions of children take a giant step out of poverty simply by going to school. But no child can take that step on an empty stomach. It takes nutritious food for them to be able to learn and grow up healthy. According to WFP, There are 66 million primary school-age children who attend classes hungry across the developing world, with 23 million in Africa alone.
I have had the opportunity to interact with school children in both Ghana and across the world. I must confess that given the importance of school lunch to our children, we need to do all within our means to secure the safety and quality of meals that Ghanaian children eat in school. We must all get involved”
School lunch is critical to student health and well-being, especially for low-income students—and ensures that students have nutrition they need throughout the day to learn. Research shows that receiving free or reduced-price school lunches reduces food insecurity, obesity rates, and poor health
Food for All Africa has since 2018 been commemorating the International School Meals day in Ghana with a stakeholders forum on improving the school feeding programs across communities currently not covered by Governments National School Feeding program.
Through extensive research and feedbacks from stakeholders, they realized the safety of food served in most of the schools is compromised due to the plates used by the school children. It is in line with addressing this challenge that they are fundraising to provide 1,000 free lunch box and meals to school children within the Akuapem-Mampong vicinity of the Eastern region. For each GH¢15 donated you have provided a lunch box and balanced meal on the day to one school child.
