Ghana’s Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed that former Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, allegedly paid a Member of Parliament to suppress media coverage of a ghost names scandal within the National Service Scheme (NSS).
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Dr. Ayine disclosed that ongoing investigations by the Office of the Attorney General, in collaboration with the ORAL team, had uncovered significant evidence of corruption within the scheme.
“With the National Service scandal, eight suspects have been interrogated, and a good number of them have started ‘singing,’” he stated. “We now have evidence of payments made into the accounts of top executives of the National Service Scheme by private vendors.”
According to Dr. Ayine, investigators have also established that in November 2024, senior officials at the NSS, including its former CEO, facilitated payments to a sitting Ghanaian MP to suppress media scrutiny and publicly defend the embattled officials.
The Attorney General further disclosed that the investigations into both the NSS corruption case and the controversial Sky Train scandal are expected to conclude by mid-April, paving the way for prosecutions.
The revelations deepen concerns over financial mismanagement within public institutions, particularly as Ghana continues efforts to strengthen governance and transparency.
