Former executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from branches, constituencies, regional, and national levels have pledged their commitment to intensify their campaign efforts for a decisive victory in the December 7, 2024 general elections.
This was disclosed by Mr. Tawiah Boateng, former NDC Eastern Regional Chairman, during a one-day training and sensitization session for members of the Eastern Regional chapter of the Coalition of NDC Former Executives (CONFEX).
Mr. Boateng emphasized the coalition’s determination to collaborate with the current party leadership, leveraging their collective experience to secure a convincing win and salvage Ghana from what he described as the economic and social mismanagement of the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration.
Addressing the participants, former NDC General Secretary Elvis Afriyie Ankrah stressed the importance of unity within the party, urging members not to be complacent despite their confidence in the party’s chances.
“Until every ballot paper is counted, we have not won. Everyone, whether former or current executives, or even ordinary members, has a role to play,” Afriyie Ankrah stated. He encouraged all former executives to actively engage in party activities, using their wealth of experience to contribute to the party’s success.
He further noted that the economic hardship under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government could only be reversed if the NDC returned to power, calling on members to work tirelessly to save the country from further mismanagement.
Mr. Boateng highlighted the primary goal of CONFEX: securing victory for former President John Dramani Mahama and increasing the party’s parliamentary seats. He acknowledged the past tensions between former and current executives that had hurt the party’s performance in previous elections, revealing that some discontented former executives had even supported independent candidates. However, CONFEX is now focused on uniting all factions to prevent such divisions in the 2024 elections.
“We are ready to work hand in hand with the current leadership to ensure victory in 2024. Divided, we fall, but united, we will win this election and secure more parliamentary seats,” Boateng declared. He urged former executives to view themselves as collaborators, not competitors, with their successors, emphasizing that their role is to support the current executives, not replace them.
Mr. David Kwadwo Siaw Frempong, former NDC Chairman for Abuakwa North Constituency, echoed these sentiments, calling for collaboration between former and current executives to secure victory in the 2024 elections. “United we stand, divided we fall,” he remarked, expressing confidence in the party’s chances.
Mr. Frempong also reassured current executives that former executives pose no threat to their positions, but are instead committed to complementing their efforts to achieve the party’s goals.
Madam Anita Desoso, former National Women’s Organizer and National Vice Chairperson, also expressed the unflinching commitment of former women executives to the NDC’s agenda at all levels. She urged former executives to prioritize the party’s growth and success, assuring Ghanaians of good governance under a Mahama presidency. Desoso called on women to continue praying for the NDC’s victory in the upcoming elections.
Mr. William Kwame Atamudzi, former Branch Executive, Constituency Executive, Regional Vice Chairman, and now Deputy National Director of Welfare, emphasized the importance of collaboration between former and current executives. He noted that such partnerships signal victory for the NDC in the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections. Atamudzi encouraged a massive membership drive to support the NDC’s transformation agenda for Ghana and urged former executives to put the past behind them, uniting with current leaders to move the party forward.
In conclusion, the former executives are committed to working closely with the current leadership to secure a resounding victory for the NDC on December 7, 2024, believing that through unity and collaboration, the party will triumph at both the presidential and parliamentary levels.
