Former Sports Minister, Dr Mustapha Ahmed reported dead

A retired military officer, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, aged 63 at the time of his passing, is survived by a wife and three children who mourn his loss.

A former Minister of Youth and Sports has been reported dead.

The unfortunate demise is said to have occurred on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in India where he was undergoing treatment for an ailment. Dr. Ahmed had been battling illness for several months before his untimely demise.

Dr. Mustapha Ahmed’s tenure as Sports Minister in Ghana’s fourth republic was brief, spanning only eight months. He assumed the role under former President John Mahama’s administration, succeeding Mahama Ayariga in June 2015 and serving until January 2016, when the Bawku Central MP was appointed to lead the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology.

Before his ministerial appointment, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed had a distinguished career as a Member of Parliament, representing the Ayawaso East Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2001 to 2013.
