Free SHS: “Review is to improve” – Mahama replies Akufo-Addo

The Flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), John Dramani Mahama has said his consideration of reviewing the NPP government’s Free SHS policy is merely to improve it and make it better.

According to him, parents have not reaped the full-scale benefit of the policy because its poorly implemented and has many gaps that frustrates the programme entirely.

Former President John Mahama has maintained that he will review the Akufo-Addo-led administration’s flagship Free-SHS Policy within his first 90-days in office if elected in the 2020 general elections.

He said he’ll engage relevant stakeholders to ensure that the policy is bettered.

But the ruling NPP has warned Ghanaians to reject Mahama in 2020 Polls because he’s planned to cancel the programme should he win power.

In a reaction to such criticisms on a Facebook Live section with Ghanaians, Mr. Mahama said the policy has brought about congestion in the system and has also lessen the contact hours which has reduced the quality of second-cycle education in the country.

The former leader, said he’ll only strive to make the policy better if he’s elected President.

For instance, he reiterated his intention to abolish the double track system and push for more infrastructure that will accommodate the overwhelming number of students in the system.

“We’ll scrap the dreaded double track system and return to our track record of massive infrastructure development across sectors.”
