Free SHS: Stop buying funeral cloth with monies saved – Prof. Yankah to parents

The Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Institutions, Professor Kwesi Yankah has advised Ghanaian Parents to made good use of monies saved following the implementation of the Free Senior High School Policy.

According to him, it is important that parents save money for future use as their children will pay school fees when they gain admission into various tertiary institutions.

Now that we don’t pay school fees in the Senior High School, if you’ve been able to save some money I advise that you don’t use this money on needless things like buying several expensive funeral cloths. I beg of you parents to save the monies in the banks for your children because you’ll in the future pay school fees in the university when your child gains admission. University education is not free.” Prof. Yankah said during the Speech and Prize-giving day of Breman Asikuma Senior High School in the Central Region.

He also advised the Teachers at the school not to maltreat the students as they are under their care.

“Teachers let’s take good care of these little boys and girls who have been entrusted into your care. Indeed all efforts the government makes to pave the way for the child are in vain if you handover the child to us in this school. Sheer indiscipline within the walls of the High Schools sets the clock back, I refer here to several emerging acts of indiscipline in now dotting our institutional Landscape, the ugly emergence of indecent interaction between Teacher and Students in the High Schools.”

Speaking to Kasapa FM News Yaw Boagyan, the School Prefect Godfred Yeboah Darko said they’re facing numerous challenges including inadequate dormitories, hence appealed to the government, Old Students and Philanthropist to come into our aid.

He finally appealed to the Inspector General of Police to ensure security is beefed up in the school to prevent criminal residents from attacking the students.
