Galamsey: Manasseh Azure Awuni begs Akufo-Addo to listen to the Asantehene

The problem of illegal mining can be solved only if Akufo-Addo and his team stop being hypocritical about the menace

The Asantehene has succinctly said what Akufo-Addo needs to be told. He said it boldly and clearly. He said the government’s claim of fighting galamsey “is full of lies; they should give us a break.”

The problem of illegal mining can be solved only if Akufo-Addo and his team stop being hypocritical about the menace.

“You send military men to galamsey sites; they end up arresting labourers covered with mud. Can this man be the one behind galamsey?” Asantehene has asked the government.

It can be solved if Akufo-Addo gets serious as a president rather than being an empty talker.

Top government and party officials are those financing the menace. They know them. They should go after them, and not the helpless labourers.

There are reports that they have burnt makeshift wooden structures belonging to Wontumi’s Akonta mining. Those structures won’t cost more than GHS 20,000.

Where are the equipment and logistics they used to destroy the environment?

Why have they not arrested Wontumi?

Why are they jailing the helpless Ghanaian, Nigerian and other African labourers, while leaving their Chinese and Ghanaian financiers?

Mr. Akufo-Addo, Ghana has seen the worst under you. But we can’t afford to import water because you have supervised and managed galamsey.

Stop blaming the chiefs and others. You’re the one who controls the security apparatus and appoints the heads of the regional and district security councils.

Don’t wait until we uncharacteristically break protocol and hoot at the hearse carrying your remains one day. It’s getting out of hand.

Listen to Otumfuo. You know he knows what he’s talking about. You know what he says is absolutely true.
