I am a Citizen.
I am a Whistleblower with a known face and address.
I rise to ask the Ghana Police Service to stop creating image problems for the Ghana Armed Forces
The Military collaborates with the Police and other Security Agents to defend the country and maintain internal peace and security.
The Military is not the Police. And the Police must stop dragging the Military into their quarrels with the Citizens of Ghana.
Whoever in the Police hierarchy ordered that criminal charges should be preferred against some Minority Members of Parliament is out of touch with the volcanic rumblings in the political space.
The Police don’t seem to be reading the political temperature of the country.
Series of demonstrations by Opposiion elements following disputed presidential and parliamentary results have heated up the political temperature as the country wobbles along the alternate currents of stability and instability.
Then Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and the Minority in Parliament exercised their legs by walking a few kilometers from the premises of Parliament to present a petition to the EC at Ridge. They talked their talk, and the EC responded by talking their talk. And the fume petered off.
Then suddenly, some some one upstairs in the Police and Security hierarchy obviously not in touch with reality advised and/or ordered that charges should be preferred against the Minority Leader and his colleagues for breaching an amorphous public order law?
Crazy decision?
With these criminal charges against the Minority Lawmakers, haven’t the Police unwittingly provided another tinder box for the lighting of the flares?
What will the Police do when the Minority MPs decide to walk to Court accompanied by tens of thousands of Opposition supporters and sympathizers?
Will the Police call for backup support from the Ghana Armed Forces?
I am aware that the election related shooting incident at Techiman South is being investigated. But information available to me indicates that the Military are disputing the claims that a soldier fired the shots.
And one would have expected the Ghana Police Service to boldly speak up to indicate who fired the gun shots!!
I was part of a Team that did independent checks on Miiltary deployments and activities before, during and after the December 7 elections.
I can report that despite some isolated incidents highlighted by the Opposition, the Ghana Armed Forces did extremely well in helping to “police” the country before, during and after the December 7 elections.
Barring the concerns of some Opposition elements, the Military has received positive reviews for its professionalism and dedication to ensuring he maintenance of peace and stability of the country.
Information available to me indicates that the Ghana Armed Forces and other Security Services are singing from the same hymn book: They will protect the territorial integrity and maintain the peace and unity and stability of Ghana.
For those who directly and indirectly are inciting the Security services, especially the Military, to destabilize the democratically elected Government of Ghana, the news from the barracks is that apart from a few hot heads, the Military generally would not allow itself to be used to truncate the country”s democratic life.
My advice as a Citizen to the Ghana Police Service is simple: Collaborate with the Ghana Armed Forces and other Security Services to maintain peace in the country.
But the Police should not get into any rash actions that will draw in soldiers from the barracks and create unnecessary image problems for the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Police is advised to drop immediately charges against the Minority MPs before the ripples become too costly for the peace and stability of the country during the long Christmas and New Year holidays and the days leading up to the January 7, 2021 swearing- in of the President- elect.
I shall return.
