An injury-time Berekum Chelsea equalizer denied the Porcupine Warriors from clinching its first Ghana Premier League win on Sunday at the Berekum Golden City Park.
Kotoko’s new signing, Kwame Opoku, broke the deadlock in the 18th minute of the first half, after latching on to Osman Ibrahim’s superb pass with a low shot which finally found the ball at the back of the net.
As Kotoko was eyeing the first victory, Berekum Chelsea on the other side was fighting gallantly to prevent a defeat at home as the match approaches its dying stage.
Emmanuel Clottey’s effort in the 93rd minute shuttered Kotoko’s hope in picking up the first victory in the GPL after he [Emmanuel Clottey] neatly converted a free-kick awarded to the home side right at the edge of Kotoko’s penalty box.
His equalizer for the home side ensured the sharing of the spoils in the match week two tie at the Golden City Park in Berekum.
Kotoko and Chelsea have each drawn their opening two games of the season leaving them seventh and eighth on the league table respectively.
Kotoko will travel to Mauritania this weekend to take their first match in the knockout stage of the CAF Champions League.
