This adjustment, spanning three months in line with PURC’s quarterly review system, follows a thorough assessment of various factors including exchange rates, inflation, electricity generation mix, and fuel costs.

Ghana’s Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs, marking a positive change for consumers across the nation.

Starting April 1, 2024, residential consumers are set to enjoy a decrease of 6.56%, while non-residential consumers will experience a reduction of 4.98% in their electricity bills.

This adjustment, spanning three months in line with PURC’s quarterly review system, follows a thorough assessment of various factors including exchange rates, inflation, electricity generation mix, and fuel costs.

The PURC said that the tariff revisions stem from its Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which also takes into account industry competitiveness and the overall living conditions of Ghanaians, writes the B&FT.

Highlighting the specifics, the commission clarifies that lifeline consumers (0-30kWh) and residential consumers within the 0-300kWh consumption bracket will witness no changes in tariffs. However, those exceeding 300 kWh can anticipate an average reduction of 6.56%. Similarly, non-residential consumers within the 0-300 kWh range will experience no alterations, while those surpassing 300 kWh will benefit from a 4.98% decrease.

Additionally, the PURC announces that water tariffs for all customer categories will remain unchanged during this review period.
