Ghana Water Company outlines distribution challenges

The management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), has advised consumers in the city of Accra to increase water storage due to some challenges the company is experiencing following high demands.

The management advised consumers to increase storage of water while it is flowing through their taps, so that in the event of low pressures or no flow, consumers can resort to their storage.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Communication, Stanley Martey in line with usage of water and the outbreak of COVID-19.

Details of the statement issued by GWCL

The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited wishes to announce that we are experiencing some challenges with water supply in Accra and most Cities during this high demand period.

Management advises consumers to increase storage of water while it is flowing through their taps, so in the event of low pressures or no flow, consumers can resort to their storage.

It must be emphasized that during this period of the convid-19 pandemic, citizens are advised to wash hands regularly under running water. With the erratic flow in some areas, consumers are advised to use improvised receptacles like the “Veronica Bucket” in the washing of hands and dispose of the dirty water immediately after.  A number of consumers who resort to the use of treated water for keeping lawns green, for commercial washing of vehicles etc. are also advised to desist from that, since these practices reduce the pressures in the pipelines, thereby causing low pressure and no flow in some areas, especially areas located in high elevations.

Management of GWCL is very much concerned about the serious impact of the water situation in the Country and wish to request all citizens to kindly report all burst pipes and leakages immediately to the nearest GWCL district offices, Customer Service centres, Fault Offices, and GWCL WhatsApp lines (0555123393, 0555155524, 0207385088, 0207385089, 0207385090. You can include google locations, pictures and videos as well.

Management of GWCL, wishes to inform the general public that it is doing its utmost best to solve the water situation in the country but as patriotic citizens, we need to use water prudently and avoid antisocial attitudes. Let us pay our bills promptly and help GWCL to serve you better.

The cooperation of the general public is greatly appreciated.

GWCL… Always at your service….
