Ghana Women Premier League Kicks off This Weekend

The season promises to be exciting especially as the headline sponsor has introduced special cash awards for the best player and best coach of the season in both Zones.

A new season for the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League will kick off this weekend with a series of opening games spread across the Northern and Southern Zones.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has already released the opening fixtures which starts on Friday, October 18.

In the Northern Zone, the Northern Ladies open the season with a game against promoted side FC Savannah while Epiphany Warriors face Faith Ladies.

The Matchday one games will transition into the next day where the remaining four games in each zone will take place.

Champions Hasaacas Ladies will go against Berry Ladies, Army Ladies against Soccer Intellectuals, Ladies Strikers against Police Ladies and Jonina Ladies against Halifax Ladies in the Southern Zone.

In the Northern Zone, Kumasi Sports Academy will take on Supreme Ladies, Tamale Super Ladies against Dreamz Ladies, Fosu Super Ladies against Sung Shining Ladies and then Prisons Ladies against Champions Ampem Darkoa.

As part of this, a cash incentive of GHS10,000 will be awarded to the Best Coach of the season while the Best Player in both zones will take home GHS10,000 each.

This initiative, according to Malta Guinness Ghana, is aimed at recognising and rewarding the hard work and commitment that players and coaches contribute to the growth of the Women’s Premier League.

Meanwhile, the FA plans to equip each of the 20 women Premier League clubs with 30 pairs of football boots, 30 footballs, and appearance fees of GH₵60,000 and GH₵65,000 respectively for Northern Zone clubs and Southern Zone clubs.

In addition, all matches in the upcoming season will have extensive media coverage across both zones, the FA announced during the launching of the season.
