Ghana’s Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs assimilate India’s Institutional dynamics

“We went through a museum that introduced us to a lot of things. The institutional dynamics there are very elaborate"

The Chief Director of Ghana’s Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh is currently in India together with his minister, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to meet with the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs of India, Pralhad Joshi.

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in Indian is a government ministry created in 1949 as a department but later became a full ministry, and now headed by the Union Cabinet Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.

It handles affairs relating to the Parliament of India, and works as a link between the two chambers, the Lok Sabha “House of the People,” the lower house and the Rajya Sabha “Council of States,” the upper house.

Speaking to AGN News, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh who is also a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana said they had visited the parliamentary training institute in India earlier to acknowledge the type of outreach and training programs they have.

“…we realized the composition of the training institute in terms of faculty…the course they have run and each of their programs, amongst other things” he said.

According to him, their visit to India was to consolidate the ministry of parliamentary affairs in Ghana so that it does not suffer the sequencial abortion it has suffered over the years.

“They took us through the library of the MPs where they do their research. They showed us the original constitution, it was handwritten, they have preserved it. They also took us through the works of their scholars and books written by former and current MPs,” he added.

“We went through a museum that introduced us to a lot of things. The institutional dynamics there are very elaborate,” he told AGN’s Princess Arita Anim.

The Chief Director is in the company of the Director of Administration of the Ministry and the personal assistant to the minister, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
