As Parliament of Ghana prepares to digitize its systems to reflect global trends globally, Members of the House have been scheduled to undergo IT training. Beginning Monday, February 3 – 6, 2020, the MPs are expected to be schooled on the new system.
Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, on Friday called on the MPs to take the training process seriously since it is the beginning of the long awaited process of Parliament going completely electronic (E-Parliament).
According to the Speaker, Parliament is poised to go paperless before the end of this Session in order to reduce the use of paper documents in the House.
“I will urge you to take the training seriously so that we can move in accordance with the times. If you have any difficulties, please consult your grandchildren because they seem to know their way around these machines.”
He said this on the Floor after the MP for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah raised an issue about the upcoming training programme and the need for all MPs to show up for the program.
We are reliably informed that as part of the process, MPs are going to be given multipurpose electronic tablets with special features which will constantly keep them updated with issues concerning parliament.
The agenda for the digitization of Parliament has been on the drawing board since the fifth Parliaments with the introduction of new electronic gadgets on the table of each MP.
