GJA Calls for Arrest of Persons Who Assaulted a Journalist During Salifu Amoako Court Arraignment

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest sympathisers of the founder of Alive Chapel International, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako who launched an unprovoked attack on Murtala Inusah, a journalist during his court arraignment.

According to a video that captured the incident, the journalist had been swarmed by a group of people who appeared physically assaulting him at the court premises on October 16, 2024.

The GJA revealed in a statement on October 17 that the “devilish” attack by the “hooligans” left the journalist with cuts on his fingers and severe body pain. He also lost his phone in the process.

It recognizes that the attack was launched while the journalist was going about his official duties, covering the news.

“The GJA is also informed that a police court warrant officer who went to the aid of the journalist was assaulted by the hooligans and we condemn the same in no uncertain terms. We call on the Ghana Police Service to immediately arrest the assailants and prosecute them while urging the Judiciary to severely punish them when found guilty.”

It used the occasion to discourage media practitioners from being intimidated by such callous acts and continue to discharge their professional and constitutional mandate.

Additionally, it urged the same to be circumspect in the coverage of that subject as it involves a teenager.

The pastor alongside his wife and one other were arrested and arraigned in court following the fatal East Legon crash over the weekend allegedly caused by their teenage son.

The accident claimed the lives of two identified as Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both 12 years old.
