GJA President elected member of FAJ Steering Committee

A statement by the GJA said Dwumfour’s election to the nine-member Steering Committee marks a milestone for Ghanaian representation within the federation, promising to bring a fresh perspective to the committee’s efforts in promoting journalistic integrity and freedom across the continent.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has been elected to the Steering Committee of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) following the 5th Delegates Congress of the FAJ, which was conducted virtually on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

The Federation of African Journalists, a Pan-African organization under the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) umbrella, has welcomed new leadership to guide its operations for the next three years.

Among the newly elected officials, Omar Faruk Osman from Somalia has been named President, with Zied Dabbar of Tunisia as Vice President and Maria Luisa Rogiero of Angola serving as the Honorary Treasurer.

The rest are Erick Oduor of Kenya, Jean-Claude Coulibaly of Cote d’Ivoire, Sadig Ibrahim Ahmed Ibrahim of Sudan, Mohammed Et-Talbi of Morocco, and Obam Mejo Marion of Cameroon.

Expressing his gratitude, Dwumfour acknowledged the support from both Ghanaian and international colleagues that contributed to his election victory.

He took the opportunity to extend an invitation to the FAJ Congress delegates to the 3rd Africa Media Convention, which is scheduled to be held in Accra, Ghana, in May 2024.

The event is anticipated to be a significant gathering for media professionals across Africa, offering a platform for discourse on the challenges and advancements within the journalistic landscape.
