Some key industry players in the private sector have contended that the sector has failed to live up to expectations under the current NPP administration.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Private Enterprises Federation, Nana Osei Bonsu says the private sector was full of hope when the NPP administration assumed office in 2017 given the ambitious private sector-friendly promises the party rode on into government.
In an interview with Accra-based JoyNews monitored by The High Street Journal, Nana Osei Bonsu maintained that the private sector has been disillusioned as the promises by the NPP to make the sector the engine of growth of the economy have not been fulfilled.
The CEO insists the private sector is currently not in good condition due to the unfavorable policies the government has implemented.
“The private sector is not doing well,” he maintained.
Admitting that although the government offered some support, their interventions were mismatched with the needs and priorities of the sector.
“I won’t say they didn’t give us support—maybe they didn’t know what support to give us,” Mr. Bonsu said and further insisted that “they didn’t deliver. That is the verdict of this administration. They failed to deliver to the private sector.”
Despite the verdict of the Private Enterprises Federations on the government’s performance, the NPP continues to tout an unprecedented performance in the private sector.
According to the government, abolishing some nuisance taxes, and reforms at the ports among others are significant policies that have enhanced the private sector, a position which is vehemently opposed by the sector.
