GPHA Responds to Allegations on Boankra Inland Port and Other Projects

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has responded to allegations of mismanagement and corruption regarding the $90 million Boankra Inland Port Project, dismissing the claims as factually inaccurate. The allegations were published in The Insight newspaper on January 29, 2025, based on a press statement from the Forum for Development and Accountable Governance (FDAG).

In a statement signed by Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako, General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, GPHA clarified that the Boankra Inland Port Project is under the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) with oversight from the Ministry of Transport. GPHA’s involvement was fully authorized and executed in strict adherence to due process.

Keta Port Project Viability

Addressing concerns about the Keta Port Project, GPHA reaffirmed its feasibility, countering claims that its proximity to Tema and Lomé ports makes it unviable. The Authority cited thorough feasibility studies and stakeholder engagements confirming the project’s economic potential. The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment has been completed and awaits public hearing by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) before a development permit is issued.

Addressing Auctioning and Asset Mismanagement Allegations

GPHA also refuted allegations of irregular asset sales, including the auctioning of a Reach Stacker (RST4517) and the disappearance of trailers. The Authority stated that all auctioning is conducted in line with Ghanaian laws and due administrative processes. An eight-member committee has been tasked with investigating the claims and will present its findings in due course.

Fraudulent Recruitment Claims Denied

The Authority strongly denied allegations of fraudulent staff recruitment, asserting that all hiring processes comply with legal and procedural guidelines.

Commitment to Transparency and Accountability

GPHA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s port infrastructure and ensuring its continued development. The Authority assured the public of its willingness to cooperate with any statutory investigative body probing the allegations.
