GPL: Gold Stars Beat Hearts of Oak to Continue Unbeaten Streak; Kotoko Held to a 1-1 Draw by Holy Stars

Bibiani Gold Stars continued their impressive unbeaten streak with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak, further solidifying their position at the top of the table.

The match, held at the University of Ghana Stadium, saw Samuel Atta Kumi score the decisive goal in the 70th minute, marking a significant milestone in Gold Stars’ campaign.

However, Hamza Issah’s shot went wide, leaving the Phobians unable to capitalize on their chance. With this victory, Gold Stars FC now boasts an unbeaten run of eight matches, accumulating 18 points out of a possible 24.

In another notable match, Nations FC delivered a commanding performance, defeating Vision FC 3-0 at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Faisal Chawetey was the star of the show, netting two goals in the 24th and 59th minutes, while Richard Danso capped it off with an injury-time goal. This victory lifted Nations FC to fourth place in the league standings, demonstrating their determination to compete at the highest level.

 

Bechem United, however, failed to make home advantage count as they were held to a goalless draw by Karela United at Nana Gyeabour Park. The result was disappointing for Bechem, who missed the chance to secure vital points at home.

Asante Kotoko SC, one of the league’s traditional powerhouses, dropped points in a 1-1 draw against Basake Holy Stars. Albert Amoah opened the scoring for Kotoko with a sublime finish in the 34th minute, but Prince Tweneboah equalized for Basake in the 81st minute, leaving Kotoko three points behind leaders Gold Stars FC.

Heart of Lions ended their streak of draws with a narrow 1-0 victory over Nsoatreman FC, thanks to a goal from Nana Oppong. This win was crucial for Lions, who had struggled in previous matches.

Young Apostles FC managed to secure a slim 1-0 win against struggling Dreams FC, with Daniel Lomotey scoring the all-important goal in the 61st minute. Dreams FC remains without a win after eight matches, highlighting their challenging start to the season.

FC Samartex 1996 edged past Berekum Chelsea with a 1-0 win, courtesy of Akwasi Sarpong’s goal in the 55th minute, keeping their title defense hopes alive.

The match between Aduana FC and Medeama SC, which ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, was disrupted by heavy rain and will resume on Monday.

The game had to be called off just three minutes before full-time due to the unplayable conditions, following a remarkable comeback by Aduana after trailing 2-0.
