Election 2020: GUM Promises to slash Unemployment Rate in Ghana by 30% in First Term

Ghana Union Movement (GUM) led by Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrew, also known as ‘Osofo Kyiri Abosom’ has promised to reduce Ghana’s unemployment rate by 30% in its first term should the party win the 2020 general election scheduled for December 7.

Unemployment has been one of the major headaches of successive governments. Many governments including the current Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) have tried to find solutions to the unemployment challenges but this has rather rendered most graduates jobless leading to the formation of a ‘Graduate Unemployment Association’ in the country.

Nonetheless, GUM, which has become one of the fast-rising political parties in the country, says it is determined to cut down the unemployment rate by 30% in its first term in office should Ghanaians give them the mandate.

According to the Ashanti Regional Secretary of GUM, Felix Kofi Etuahene, the party will create employment for all Ghanaians irrespective of one’s education status.

“We are going to create a lot of jobs for the people of Ghana in our first term of office if only they give us the mandate in the December 7 polls,” he stated.

In a recent interview with Opera News, he said the employment opportunities shall not be based on only certificates, but would be purely based on the abilities and capabilities, power, skills, and expertise in instances where specialization is needed.

He revealed that GUM will create employment through revamping of all abandoned and uncompleted state-owned factories, retaking of state-owned factories from individuals and groups that acquired them unlawfully, awarding contracts to individuals will be abolished. He said the GUM government will procure the requisite equipment and then hire the Ghanaian youth to execute the project which he believes will create massive employment in the country.

The Ghana Union Movement will focus on industrialization programs and other initiatives and this they believe will help to create employment thereby alleviating unemployment to the bottom.

The Secretary pleaded with Ghanaians to vote for the party on December 7, 2020, in other to save the country from the hands of a corrupt NPP and NDC.
