Disposed Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, on Thursday, February 9, 2023 caused a stir in Parliament when he appeared in the House for parliamentary business.
Clad in an all-white apparel, the outgone, outspoken Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central constituency ignored the seat officially assigned him. Instead, he went to sit on the seat of the Second Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP), who was presuding at the time presiding at the time.
Hon. Haruna apologized to the second Deputy Speaker for using his seat, explaining that after having been disposed of his position, he was assigned to the seat of Hon. Collins Dauda, MP for Asutifi South.
However, as a well-brought up child in a well-trained home, he has respect for seniority and the elderly. Subsequently, he cannot take over the seat of his senior, who surpasses him both in age and in Parliament.
He intimated that as representative of the people of Tamale Central, he will represent his people in the House by sitting on any appropriate available seat.
Meanwhile, the informed MP took his turn to contribute profusely to the report of the Committee on Foreign Affairs on the African Union Convention on Cross Border Co-operation (Niamey Convention).
Thereafter, he stormed out of the House. The outgone Minority Leader has been on-and-off from the House since his disposal a few days ago. His appearance in the House this day was his most active since his disposal Hitherto, he had been an authority in Parliamentary work, as some MPs see his exit as Minority Leader as a big blow to Parliamentary work in particular and the National Democratic Congress in general.
