Hawkers along the Eastern Corridor Road in Atimpoku in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region and Juapong in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region were taken by surprise when ActionPlus Foundation paid them a visit to educate them on how to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Foundation, Grace Afi Hadzor, who led the team their objective was to help sensitize the hawkers on the need to prevent contact with the coronavirus which has affected some 31,000 lives in Ghana and claiming the lives of about 150 people.
“The only way we can win the fight against COVID-19 is to strictly observe the health protocols outlined by the world health organization and adopted by the government of Ghana which Includes the observation of social distancing protocols, the wearing of nose masks, sanitizing our hands frequently, and washing of hands under running water with soap”.
She cautioned the hawkers to always adhere to the protocols, insisting that putting the nose mask below the chin should not be encouraged. She also advised on the use of their hand sanitizer frequently because of the nature of their job which involves frequent exchanging of money, a factor that can lead to contracting the deadly virus.
The Foundation after the education donated some Personal Protective Equipment to the hawkers and okada riders in Juapong.
