Member of Parliament for the Zabzugu constituency in the Northern region, Alhassan Umar, has accused the Ministry of Health of deliberately stealing his constituency projects to shore up its infrastructure outlook.
Reacting to a recent media publication in which the some some perceived health infrastructure projects of the Akufo-Addo government were highlighted, the MP described the Ministry of Health’s data as a deception orchestrated to throw dust into the public eyes.
There was a news reportage on Ghanaweb where Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu is quoted to have highlighted all health facilities constructed by this government within the last three years. He gave the details during one of the press briefings on the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
According to the MP, item number 539, on the data provided by the Minister is misleading and incorrect, because it was he who personally conceived, implemented, and executed that particular project in his constituency from scratch to finish.
“This is an attempt to smuggle my project which I personally sponsored and funded. This is an act of desperation on the part of the Minister and the Nana Addo-led government. It is unacceptable, it is a shame,” a furious MP stated.
“I used my MP’s share of the National Health Insurance Fund, and other resources to construct the Reproductive and Child Health Center (RCH) in the Zabzugu Township as my contribution to improve healthcare delivery in the constituency,” he added.
He wondered how the Health Minister and his officers could not differentiate between an MP funded project from a government funded project.
He urged the Ministry to immediately correct the deception they have created with the data they published.
He is also demanding “an unqualified apology to the people of Zabzugu for the grand and open deception,” insisting that “we cannot continue to be deceiving the good people of this country with such lies on infrastructure. It is not acceptable!”
